Did you ever wonder why every browser user-agent starts with “Mozilla”? Chrome on MacOS (version 64) for example has the following user agent string. Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.186 Safari/537.36 I did wonder, but never really bothered to look it up. The other day, however, I found a blog post which explains the history behind the “Mozilla” part of the user string and it’s quite funny.
